After meeting with Mr. Allen and Mr. Greene, we were able to decide our programs at KJMS. We will be starting a general robotics program as well as a FIRST Lego League Challenge team during the 2023-2024 season at KJMS.

For our next meeting, we hope to hold an interest meeting for all KJMS students in order to determine how many students would be interested.

During our interest meeting with KJMS, over 30 students attended and showed interested in joining either the FLL competitive team or the general robotics team to understand the fundamental skills used in FTC. 

We hope to have our first session during our next visit to KJMS for the FLL challenge team. 

11/30/2023

During our first FLL session with the KJMS FLL challenge team they were introduced to this years challenge and then were given the opportunity to explore and build team projects. They students split up into groups where they completed group projects that they shared with their peers at the end of the meeting.

Next meeting we hope to continue to enrich the students by exposing them to more challenging builds and projects with the help of our volunteers to assist them in any challenges they may face.

In our second meeting with the KJMS FLL Challenge team we conducted a poll asking the students if they would be interested in starting new projects or continuing their old ones and with split results we allowed the students to do one of the two. With the help of the vice presidents and volunteers who were able to guide the meeting the students were able to continue to enhance their builds. At the end of the meeting they presented to their peers what they accomplished throughout the meeting.

Next meeting we hope to continue guiding and assisting the students as they build and advance their projects.

In our first meeting with the KJMS general robotics team we introduced the students to CAD. We assisted them with setting up TinkerCAD accounts where they created custom key chains and showed them how CAD is used for robots in the real world. 

In our next meeting we hope to continue learning about CAD and expanding it towards a new group project using CAD.

Ronit met with Mrs. Whitis, the teacher sponsor for the Providence ES FLL team, and finalized which teams they would be running for the upcoming year. 

For our next meeting with Mrs. Whitis which will be on December 11th, we hope to finalize what we will be working on for our first meeting with the students on the FLL Explore and FLL Challenge Teams.

Ronit and Ibtihal met with Mrs. Whitis along with the new teachers,, Ms. Hanton, Ms. McNeil, and Ms. McConnell, who will be sponsoring the new programs. They discussed how the 4 FLL explore teams along with the 1 FLL Challenge team will run and their timeline. 

Next meeting we hope to meet with the first FLL explore team and host an introductory session introducing our volunteers and the students to each other ensuring a smooth start.

​Ibtihal, Sama, and new volunteer, Siham, introduced the new theme of this year’s FIRST Lego League masterpiece! The elementary school kids (grades 2 - 4) at Providence started building their prototypes of a skateboarding arena using Legos in today’s session. They were also able to learn about the core values and how they’ll be used through the upcoming sessions!

At the next meeting, we hope for the students to construct their stages and put their mini figures together.

​Cecile helped the Providence FLL Explore team to work together to construct their stages. The students were able to complete their stages and add mini figures to simulate performances.

At the teams next session, we hope to help them finish their stages by adding motors and lights.

​Ronit helped the Providence FLL Explore team finish their stages by adding a motor and lights. The students were then able to learn how to program their robots and make their stages rotate to show the full effects utilized in real performances. At the end of the session, Ronit donated 4 SPIKE Lego PRIME kits to Providence ES to ensure success for their FLL Challenge teams!

With the addition of our new SPIKE Essential kits, we hope to help the students create their own master piece designs and program them to be apart of their team journey.

​Ibtihal and new volunteer, Mohamed, introduced the new theme of this year’s FIRST Lego League masterpiece to two new teams! The elementary school kids (grades 2 - 4) at Providence started building their prototypes of a skateboarding arena using Legos in today’s session. They were also able to learn about the core values and how they’ll be used through the upcoming sessions!

At our next meeting with this group, we hope to catch up on their engineering notebooks so that the students have a strong understanding of this season's mission.

​Ronit, Ibtihal, Vaish, and Khalid helped the second FLL Explore were also able to work on their Engineering Notebooks and add instruments to their stages.

With their stages being fully built, we hope to spend our next meeting teaching the students how to program their models.

​Abenezer helped the second FLL Explore group at Providence ES start the actual coding aspect of the lego set on spike. The students were also able to work on their Engineering Notebooks and code there, Legos to play music, spin and do small functions that were coded by them through spike.

Since the students have not completely understood the programming aspect, we hope to spend our next session applying their knowledge to their models.

​Ronit, Ibi, Khalid, and Lynn helped the Providence FLL Explore Team complete their stages with the use of motors and lights. The students were then able to continue activity 5 by programming their stages to rotate and create sound.

Since the students had finished their last model activity, we hope to spend the next session letting them build their own designs.

​Ibtihal, and new volunteer, Mohamed, introduced the new theme of this year’s FLL Challenge masterpiece to Providence's first FLL Challenge team! The elementary school kids (grade 5) at Providence were able to learn about the core values and how they’ll be used through the upcoming sessions. They also downloaded necessary SPIKE software and completed the tutorials along with a quick challenge to introduce them to FLL Challenge!

At our next meeting, we hope to help the students work through their first sesssion building the different models.

Ronit and Ibtihal trained FIRST for Youth’s new volunteers, Justin and Vaish for the Providence ES FLL Challenge team. During this meeting, we introduced the stage to the teams through the lesson, showing them the possibility of things that they could add to personalize their stages.

During our next meeting with the students, we will work on finishing the various models so we can start programming them and adding moving components.

​We had another session with the FLL Challenge team at Providence ES. During this meeting, Ronit, Ibtihal, and Cecile along with volunteers Khalid, Natasha, Steffany, and Hafasa, were able to lead the meeting and continue assisting the students with their builds. The students worked alongside their teammates and completed their museum themed builds where they got to learn about a museum curators role and experience it on a smaller scale.

At our next meeting with the students we wish to start learning more about the different roles and start programming the student-built models.

Ronit met with Mrs. Sharpes, the Gifted Education Teacher at Eagle View ES in order to discuss this seasons parts and challenge. We were very happy to find out that Mrs. Sharpes had already ordered the kits and is advertising the club around school. 

At our next meeting, we hope to meet with the principal in order to discuss the plans before we start meeting for the official season.

Ronit and Ibtihal met with Mrs. Sharpes to look through the kits and finalize the teams that will be started and when. They were able to confirm that both the new FLL teams will be starting the week of January 15th.

At the next meeting we hope to meet the new students we will be mentoring and we hope to introduce our new volunteers to them as well.

​Ronit and Lynn were able to work with the six new Eagle View ES teams to guide them through their first introductory session with FLL Explore. The students explored their kids and worked through their team tasks. 

At their next session, the students will start assembling their concert stages and learn about the various characters in the story and their roles.

Ronit and Ibtihal met with Ms. Auza at Daniels Run to coordinate next years teams and help finalize who the new sponsor will be. They were able to confirm that the two FLL teams starting up at Daniels Run would have their first meetings towards the end of January.

In the next meeting we hope to finalize the new sponsor and discuss a timeline for the new teams.
